Have you ever tried something because it worked for someone else, only to find that it didn’t work for you? Maybe your friend followed a diet and lost weight, but when you tried it, nothing changed. Or maybe someone told you to wake up at 5 AM to be successful, but you just ended up feeling tired all day. It happens to all of us.

Life is not a one-size-fits-all journey. What helps one person might be useless for another. That’s because we all have different backgrounds, personalities, and circumstances. As the famous psychologist Carl Jung once said, “The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases.”

The Problem with Universal Advice

We live in a world full of advice. There are books, podcasts, and social media posts that tell us the ‘right’ way to do things. But the truth is, there is no single right way. Let’s take success as an example. Some people find success by working long hours, while others achieve great things by maintaining a balanced life. Steve Jobs dropped out of college and became one of the most successful people in history, while Warren Buffett went through traditional education and still became a billionaire. Who is right? Both! Because their paths suited them.

The same applies to relationships. Some people thrive in long-distance relationships, while others need to be close to their partners. Some people love big social gatherings, while others feel drained by them. Neither way is wrong; it just depends on the person.

Finding What Works for You

Instead of following what works for someone else, we should focus on what suits us. Here’s how:

  1. Listen to yourself. Pay attention to what makes you feel happy and productive, rather than blindly following trends.
  2. Experiment. Try different approaches and see what actually works for you.
  3. Be patient. It’s okay if something doesn’t work. Keep adjusting until you find what suits you.
  4. Respect differences. Just because something works for you doesn’t mean it will work for others. Let people choose their own path.

Bruce Lee once said, “Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own.” That’s the key. Life is about finding what fits you. So the next time someone tells you that you must follow a certain path, remember: what works for one may not work for another. And that’s okay.
