There’s a famous story about Warren Buffett and his pilot, Mike Flint. One day, Flint asked Buffett how to set priorities in life. Buffett told him to write down his top 25 career goals. Then, he asked Flint to circle only the top five. The other 20? Buffett said, “Avoid them at all costs.”

The lesson? Moving fast in the wrong direction is useless. We often chase things just because they seem urgent — money, status, or even relationships — but we never ask if they’re leading us where we truly want to go.

Mistakes in Youth

When we are young, we’re in a hurry. We want success overnight. We want love without understanding it. We want money without knowing how to handle it.

I’ve seen people rush into careers they hate just because it paid well. I’ve seen people get into relationships because they were lonely, not because they found the right person. Years later, they find themselves lost, wondering how they ended up so far from happiness.

There’s an old Chinese proverb: “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” It’s never too late to change direction. The worst thing you can do is keep going the wrong way just because you’ve already started.

Relationships: Are You Choosing Right or Just Choosing Fast?

We live in a world where people swipe left and right for love. Everything is quick — instant messages, fast replies, relationships that start today and end tomorrow. But is love something that should be rushed?

Think about Johnny Depp. He once said, “People cry not because they’re weak, but because they’ve been strong for too long.” Many people stay in bad relationships because they’ve invested too much time. They think, “I’ve spent years with this person, I can’t leave now.” But staying with the wrong person just because you’ve already spent time with them is like sinking deeper into quicksand, hoping it will turn into solid ground.

Real love, real friendships, real relationships take time. It’s better to walk alone for a while than to run with the wrong person.

Money: The Fastest Path Is Not Always the Best Path

Do you know why most lottery winners go broke? They get money fast, but they don’t know how to handle it.

Mike Tyson, the boxing legend, earned over $400 million in his career. Yet, he filed for bankruptcy. Why? Because money without direction is dangerous. On the other hand, Warren Buffett built his wealth slowly, investing wisely. Today, he is one of the richest men in the world.

People often say, “I’ll be happy when I make more money.” But money without purpose is like a car without a steering wheel. You might go fast, but you won’t go far.

Instead of chasing quick money, chase knowledge. Instead of looking for shortcuts, build something that lasts.

Steve Jobs once said, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

Everyone is in a rush. But what’s the point of running if you’re on the wrong road? Instead of worrying about speed, focus on direction. Instead of worrying about getting there first, make sure you’re heading to the right place.

So take a deep breath. Think about where you’re going. It’s okay to move slowly — as long as you’re moving in the right direction.
